Case History: Mast. Somnath Gavit, a 7 years old boy, is diagnosed with large secundum ASD. Atrial septal defects are defined as primum or secundum. The primum defects are linked to other ventricular septum and mitral valve heart defects. Secundum defects can be a single, small or large hole. There may also be more than one small hole in the septum or wall between the two chambers. The surgeons use patches to close the hole. Open-heart repair surgery is the only way to fix primum, sinus venous and coronary sinus atrial defects. The patient is scheduled for surgery at Balaji Heart Hospital & Diagnostic Centre.

Family Background: Somnath’s father works as a labourer, while his mother is a homemaker. The family’s financial situation is challenging, with his father earning a monthly income of 3000/-. With ten members in the family, they are heavily reliant on his father’s income. However, due to their financial constraints, they cannot afford the expenses associated with Om’s medical treatment.
