Case History: Miss Meera Gothankar. A 7 years old female is diagnosed with large ostium secundum ASD. An ostium secundum ASD is a hole in the centre of the atrial septum. Normally, the right side of the heart pumps oxygen-poor blood to the lungs, while the left side pumps oxygen-rich blood to the body. An ASD allows blood from both sides to mix, causing the heart to work less efficiently. This type of atrial septal defect repair surgery involves an incision through the chest wall to access the heart directly. The surgeons use patches to close the hole. The patient is being operated at Balaji Heart Hospital and Diagnostic Centre – Byculla Mumbai.

Family Background: Her father driving auto rickshaw while her mother is a homemaker. Their monthly family income is 7000/- in their family total of three members are living, which is insufficient to cover the cost of medical expenses.
