Case History: Miss Shravi Pathare. A 5 years & 10 month old female is diagnosed with large ASD. A large atrial septal defect can cause extra blood to overfill the lungs and overwork the right side of the heart. If not treated, the right side of the heart eventually grows larger and becomes weak. The blood pressure in the arteries in the lungs can also increase, leading to pulmonary hypertension. Surgery is required for patients with sinus venous ASD and is recommended in early childhood. The patient is being operated at Balaji Heart Hospital and Diagnostic Centre – Byculla Mumbai.

Family Background: Her father working as a tailor while her mother is a homemaker. Their monthly family income is 5500/- in their family total of three members are living, which is insufficient to cover the cost of medical expenses. Due to his responsibilities towards the family and they are dependent on him, her father cannot afford the treatment cost.
